Derrel & Karine

Chilliwack, British Columbia

Derrel is a trained mechanic who, for several years, worked in northern Alberta for a drilling company.

When he and his wife Karine were expecting their little Ellie, he decided it was time to stick around home. They managed the family food truck and did very well. Then, with a fourth baby on the way, it was agreed that they needed to move on to a different business. Derrel and Karine came across Curb-Ease while looking up franchise opportunities. Curb-Ease caught their eye with the beautiful finishes and saw potential in the Chilliwack area. They hopped right in and even though it was a slow start, they are ramping up business. The most rewarding part is seeing how happy customers are as they see the finished product. Derrel is hopeful that his children will one day show interest and join him by running their own crew!

Derrel and his helper had a chance to work on this commercial pathway project at a condominium complex in Port Coquitlam earlier this year. We extruded the curbing directly on the existing packed base—so there was virtually no prep required. Also the customer chose the Peak profile with a slate texture—which also made the job move along fairly quickly. Dedicating time in the off season to establish relationships with Major Account Customers should be a priority to everyone.
